The Sharm el-Sharks: Fisherman capture beasts who mauled four tourists at Egyptian resort beach

A pair of sharks suspected of attacking four tourists at an Egyptian Red Sea resort have been caught, the government has claimed.

One woman lost her hand another woman lost her leg as the creatures struck at popular Sharm el-Sheikh on Tuesday and yesterday.

Among the victims were three Russians and a Ukranian.

However, there are many Britons also staying at the resort at this time of year, the sunny weather and diving a great temptation for those able to escape the snow.

Authorities had ordered holidaymakers out of the water until the sharks were caught.

The sharks were eight and seven feet long weighing between 250kg and 150kg. One was a Mako shark and the other an Oceanic White Tip.

'Usually these kinds of sharks don't attack human beings but sometimes they have trouble with their nervous system and they accidentally go after people,' said a spokesman.

Egypt sees one to two fatal shark attacks a year and the sharks' capture is important for the tourism industry.

Diving instructor Hassan Salem had been on a dive at the time of the first attack and was circled by the shark before it went for the couple.

'I was able to scare the shark away by blowing bubbles in its face, but then saw it swim to a woman and bite her legs,' he said.

Mr Salem described how the water turned red with blood from the attack and he rushed to take the diver he was training out of the water.
