Nearly one in 10 children in the United States has been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, up 22 percent in just four years, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports.
The survey of parents found that 9.5 percent reported having a child who had ever been diagnosed with ADHD, up from 7.8 percent four years earlier.
Older teens and Hispanics, in particular, saw the largest increases in diagnoses, the CDC said in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
What isn't known, though, is whether the findings are the result of more kids actually having the condition or just greater awareness and better reporting, the study authors say.
