The NAND Flash Memory Technology Generations 2012

Now a day the Apple would have to acknowledge the acquisition in its quarterly financial results to be released later this month. Reuters reported Wednesday that an Apple spokesperson did confirm the purchase but would not disclose its plans for Anobit.

Anobit uses consumer-grade NAND flash memory technology to make storage products for data centers.Apple is the industry's largest consumer of NAND flash technology, so acquiring Anobit would give it a means of addressing reliability problems that arise as solid-state memory shrinks in size.

Anobit has produced two generations of Genesis SSD technology. The intellectual property that sets it apart from other SSD manufacturers is a controller that uses firmware it calls Memory Signal Processing (MSP), a type of ECC. The MSP technology increases the signal-to-noise ratio, making it possible to continue reading data even as electrical interference rises.

The Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest maker of mobile phones, rose in Seoul trading after Apple Inc. lost a bid to block sales of the South Korean company’s Galaxy phones and tablet computers in the U.S. The U.S. District Court in San Jose, California, ruled Dec. 3 against Apple’s plea to ban Samsung from selling its 4G smartphone and Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in the country.

The company gained as much as 2.2 percent to 1.07 million won, before trading 1.5 percent higher at 10:53 a.m. The benchmark Kospi index fell 0.1 percent.The victory builds on an Australian court ruling last month that lifted an earlier injunction on the tablet in the country. Samsung and Apple have filed at least 30 suits against each other on four continents since April.
