The Academy Awards Of Oscars Winners

Academy Awards Oscars
This has not been a good year for Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak. Less than a year ago the Academy put on one of the most critically lambasted Oscar shows in great memory. That was followed by the controversial decision to change the best picture rules after only two years of a 10 nominees system. Next came the eyebrow raising good decision to hire industry infant terrible Brett Ratner as the co-executive producer of the this year's 84th Academy Awards along with the bizarre return of previous producer Don Misher.

Today Sherak and the Academy found themselves the subject of a major investigative article from the Los Angeles Times breaking down the organization's usually private membership details. The subject matter is especially timely as the OscarsOscar night follow a year of zero nominations for minorities in the major categories with just three in 2012. The results of the Times findings aren't shocking, but they are incredibly discouraging for an organization that has publicly been trying to diversify since 2003.

When the names of winners are revealed on Oscar night, year 2011 of suspense give way to tears, smiles and nice speeches. Yet when the curtain falls, one question remains: Who cast the votes?About 37 million people tuned in to the Academy Awards Oscars last year, and a great deal rides on the show's outcome. Winning a golden statuette can vault an actor to stardom, add millions to a movie's box office and boost a studio's prestige.

The Samsung Galaxy- Phone-Tablet Hybrid

Samsung Galaxy

The Walt Moss berg tests the Samsung Galaxy Note, a phone-tablet hybrid with a large screen that uses a stylus as well as your fingers. Lots of folks carry nice a smartphone, and, at least some of the time, tote a second mobile device an i Pad or other tablet. But some people might prefer a product that combines the two. Similarly, many have come to love the finger-controlled interface popularized by great Apple, but might prefer at times 5-inch screen Galaxy to use a stylus, a common tool in the per-iPhone days.

After testing the Galaxy Note. It isn't a very practical phone and, as a tablet, it can't match the experience of the i Pad, which is more spacious and has over 150,000 apps designed for it. However, I can see where some folks might consider the 5-inch screen a good trade-off for much better portability than other tablets, and Samsung application has done some very interesting work in making the stylus, which is stored in a slot on the device, most useful. Android OS application using in Samsung Galaxy.

The Decision To Pull Breast-Screening Funds

G. Komen

The nation's largest and most widely recognized breast cancer advocacy organization faced a rolling avalanche of criticism and major revolt within its own ranks Thursday after a decision to eliminate all funding to Planned Parenthood.

The decision by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation to halt grants totaling $680,000 last year -- used by 19 Planned Parenthood affiliates across the nation for breast exams has stirred debate across country since it was announced two days ago.

All seven California Susan G. Komen affiliates including the San Francisco chapter have come out in opposition to the group's new national policies, and 26 senators urged the Komen foundation to reconsider its decision. The New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg pledged $250,000 to help Planned Parenthood, which provides family planning and abortion services, to make up the money it lost.
